Anyway. Skating progress? I've been posting a couple videos on Instagram on my jump and spins progress.

Yesterday I managed my first successful loop jumps. It feels like i should have started those much earlier but the COVID break did make it weird (and my old boots not fitting me correctly). They're difficult. I trained them solo today and took a video of a decent one. This is off a 3-turn entrance; I'm also working off a backwards crossover entrance (the "proper" way) but it's more difficult.

The difficult part is getting the movement "right". As with many other figure skating steps and jumps, the whole thing is extremely unnatural, so your body reacts negatively to the very thought of doing what you're about to do. Forcing yourself to jump off your right foot and landing back on it, even just that takes a lot of work. Then once you've successfully understood, physically, what you have to do, it's a matter of teaching your muscles to do it more and more naturally, and understand how to positively amplify the movement (where to put your weight, balance your arms and legs, etc).

My learning process for new moves now has radically changed to the one I had months ago. Being able to identify and understand the blockers, the problems in my moves makes it more motivating to continue working on training them.

I managed to maintain my weight even though I didn’t track my food at all during my week-long beach vacation! Apparently I was moving around enough to make up for eating and drinking a lot.

My hand is back at full capacity, and I’ve got to start ramping up my cycling to longer rides so I can do the Virginia Capital Trail for Labor Day Weekend. It’ll be about 100 miles over two days (50 out and 50 back). Really looking forward to the trip!

I'm currently down 22lbs since May 26th, though I've platueaed over the last two weeks. Not sure what this Wednesday will bring either. Initially it was meant to be a combination of eating ~2000kcal per day (~14000 per week) as well as exercise, but the cut was enough that it made exercise a challenge, but I was still losing weight despite no exercise after the first week. However, my gout then flared up on Week 3 and lasted almost three weeks, and while it's calmed down, it appears to have borked my knee. I am starting to get back to exercising again, just using my exercise bike. Hopefully I'll get on going for walks too, but we'll see.

Eventually, I'd like to get back in the gym, too, as I haven't been there since pre-COVID.
