Question about this plate I found at a yard sale

I recently got this plate at a yard sale and was curious if anyone has any info on it
I did some reverse google image search and couldn’t find much on it.
I’m not sure if this is number 28 made out of so many or number 28 in a set.
If this is a set I’d like to track down the rest and collect them because look how cool it is!!
I also apologize if this isn’t the right place to post as I’m fairly new to tildes.

I found this on Etsy which seems very similar. I like your plate a lot more though!

Given the Etsy listing is the exact same design but painted in totally different colors, and on a bowl (rather than a plate like OPs), the design is likely a stencil, or maybe even sold as a paint-it-yourself kit at pottery/hobby shops. You could try reaching out to that Etsy shop owner to ask for more details, and if they know of any other designs by the same company or artist, @Asmodeus.

@Adys, you're connected to that pottery world now, so do you (or SO) have any other insights or suggestions for finding out more info about that particular design?

So this is Helios' chariot, and it's supposed to have four horses. Now there are four horse faces but some weird almost AI-like shit is happening with horse #3's face and legs, to the point that if this weren't a photo from a member here I would think it's generated artwork.

Definitely hand-made but I would say not hand-painted - I can't tell from the photo but that might be a decal. Those two slits at the top are for display wire. The work honestly doesn't look very clean.

Anyway, against all odds, I found pretty similar sets. I don't think it's the same set, but it would be a good search path.

        • This one claims to be number 20, though it's made with a different mold and the stamp is different. I would just ask the seller.
        • These are in a similar style. They're clearly from a different manufacturer, but you can find "Mountanos imports" on the sticker there. Those folks might be able to identify the plate's origin. But… I haven't been able to find "Mountanos Imports" anywhere (even searched as "μουντανοσ").

        Good fuckin' luck 🤷

Oh dude no way I found it by digging into related items and looking at similar styles.

So I saw this plate which is more cleanly signed but has a very similar mold. I looked into the person who signed, "D. Vassilopoulos". This explanation quotes:

This is a 1960s Greek vase in the ancient style of pottery made by D Vassilopoulos, a company that made pieces for the tourist trade in Greece, valued at $25.

Anyway, I don't think it's specifically from this company, because I found the exact same design with different (weird-ass christmas-style) colors on Etsy:

          https://www.etsy.com/listing/1232238708/large-handmade-clay-plate-and-casket

The plate's mold is the same but the work is a lot cleaner on that. Claims to be from the 90s.

          @Asmodeus

Edit: LOL I didn't even read @codesplice's comment thanks to the ping. I was so proud for a moment.

Thanks! So I felt embarrassed and kept investigating the D Vassilopoulos route. This website is a quick ebay search tool, very useful. Check this one out @Asmodeus:...

              Check this one out @Asmodeus:

              https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304811645803

It's the same style, same level of detail, same type of coating and finish, similar type of clay, similar type of mold, similar type of signature. I think these could be from a very close set.

It seems that "D Vassilopoulos" has been around for several decades at this point (can't find much info online), so it makes sense that they would have changed their quality and finish over time. This one claims to be from "1941-1969". I think that's what you got.
