The Vasa Warship is incredible, so much more so than what I expected. I visited some friends in Stockholm who just assumed I'd want to go - In reality I had never heard of it and didn't really care. But boy did it knock my socks off! They have done an amazing job, first on the preservation and secondly on the viewing areas. I could have spent all day there! So if you're in Stockholm definitely check it out, it is more than worth a visit!!!!

Now, my second more dour note: Similar to Notre Dame and their roof construction, Stockholm is a rich city, with a wealthy municipal and national population. While I am excited for the restoration on the Vasa, there are many, many more endangered historical monuments with much less support and funding. The Vasa will inevitably get it's new support system, so if you're interested in donating to save heritage I would look into UNESCO and supporting some of their more broad ranging grant funding like projects in Syria or Myanmar. It's important to differentiate between cultural articfacts/sites and shitty governments. I've worked with folks in both Syria and Myanmar during their most conflicted periods and I want to highlight that even if someone works in Assad's Directorate of Antiquities and Museums that it doesn't mean that they support him at all and are just working to save heritage for everyone. Similar to use civil servants under Trump.
