Amazing! It's hard to convey just how difficult finding and identifying shipwrecks is! The ocean is massive! Even with ships logs, accounts, and the slough of improved bathymetric/Lidar/Sonar devices. Kudos to the whole team!!!

My favorite story from the original expedition is that as they were crossing the continent on foot they ended up having to cross a number of hills/mountains - up to 3000ft I believe. As they reached the summit they decided they wouldn't make it on foot alone and fixed together a sled made of coiled rope. They pushed off into a completely unknown slope and crossed their fingers! They ended up making it the entire way down without issue. One of the 3 men present, Frank Worsley, seemed to love it.

“We seemed to shoot into space. For a moment my hair stood on end. Then quite suddenly I felt a glow and knew that I was grinning. I was actually enjoying it. It was most exhilarating. We were shooting down the side of an almost precipitous mountain at nearly a mile a minute. I yelled with excitement and found that Shackleton and Crean were yelling too. It seemed ridiculously safe. To hell with the rocks!”

100%! Sorry I should have clarified. Shackleton had 4 expeditions: the Endurance was the ship from the third expedition (the famous tragedy) and what I'm talking about, while the Quest is what the article discusses and was part of the final expedition. I just love that story and wanted to share!
