My brother and I would watch whatever nonsense was on, my dad would scribble on his sketch-pad, and my mom always either had the quiet clicking of a spinning wheel or the loom going clackety-bang, clackety-bang nearby.
She's still at it, but slower... and she has an honest to goodness entourage in the city's weavers' guild.

He was a commercial artist by trade so it was 50:50 a piece for work, or a study. He really liked animals as subjects.
