I can see some vague value in preserving elements of a culture for historical research reasons (eg. recorded interviews), but I have difficulty in seeing what the point is in trying to fund the day to day speaking of a dying language with only a few thousand speakers. The point of language is to be useful for communication, how is this helping that?
