Ever since I read that book by Yuval Harari I've had my image of neanderthals ruined. In my head I always thought of them as A>b>c etc, but apparently between us, neanderthals, the denisovians, and others, there were a lot more humans knocking about at the same point in time, potentially adopting each others culture/traits whenever they crossed by chance.

I remember reading the Amber spyglass as a kid learning about that sentient species that lives on roads with nuts as wheels, the books descriptions really made me want to be talk with another sentient species to get their perspective. Felt pretty gutted when I learnt not long after how there once was another sentient species (Neanderthals) but we killed them off.
