I'm sharing this because I found it to be a valuable exercise in re-centering, keeping a good sense of perspective, and recalibrating focus in light of what's going on in the news lately. I strongly encourage anyone feeling anxious, frustrated, or otherwise apprehensive about the future to give it a close read.
Yeah all the stuff happening is bad, but at times like this it's important to focus like a laser on what is actually within our control and what our responses to potential outcomes will be rather than getting too worked up over who is up or who is down at any particular moment.
The actions in our hands have always been clear. In the immediate term, plan and commit to removing the biggest threats from office by electing the most viable option and have a contingency plan in place for the realistically bad outcomes. Build personal networks of mutual aid and support among your friends and neighbors. Spread awareness of your legal rights and the realistic means by which you can press for them (e.g. lawyers).
Those don't change whether Trump wins or loses, they just become more or less pressing. But it's just important to focus on what is in your hands to do something about. Worrying about the rest is like worrying about the weather. If it happens, it happens, just be prepared with the sandbags.
