It makes sense as a tactic, but as the article points out the anti-immigrant parties aren't actually becoming pro-lgbt in depth, supporting marriage for all, broad anti-discrimination ordinances and so on, they're just using the potential for the immigrants to be intolerant as a tool to further their own intolerance.
I think it kind of goes to show that nominal, surface-level support and/or tolerance of lgbtq+ people is starting to become the norm, and parties are adapting their discourse around it. The notion that they don't really care about the actual core issues kind of holds true for most of these parties, which rarely if ever have actual policy outlines for issues other then immigration/

I don't think it's even a tactic, just generational change. Hating gay people was easy when you didn't know any. As the is taboo is lifted, homophobia dissolves.
I think the debate which erupted around the question of gay adoption still proves homophobia is alive and well in France. Same goes for the kids who are thrown out of their homes for being gay, or couples who don't dare hold hands for fear of being targeted.
But the basic idea of "gay is ok" has seeped into the public debate and is no longer the iconoclastic position it once was.
There's an interesting history of LGBT "tolerance" in the early Nazi party, and among modern Eurofascists; it didn't turn out well for gay adherents:
