    This is a well researched youtube video that shows how a lot of the moral panic around trans people today (especially in the UK) is just re-heated homophobia from the 1980s.

    Section 28 was a law that lasted from 1988 to 2003. It banned any "promotion" of homosexuality in state-funded schools. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Section_28

    Haven't watched the video yet (put it on my to-do), is that it's not just that a lot of transphobia is recycled homophobia, but also that a lot of transphobes are just homophobic too. They tend to be less brazen about it, presumably because of how it is a lot less acceptable these days, but it creeps out sometimes. The homophobia will even rear its head at the same time as they talk about how they want to protect lesbians from the trans menace of whatever. Their often-espoused support for gay people is a token effort to look better.
