Lilly has decided that roasted unsalted cashews are treats. They're not actively harmful to cats, unlike some of the other human food she's prone to filch (broccoli with garlic sauce, really?).

I've heard of dogs getting weird food obsessions - shoe leather seems to be a thing, but I don't normally expect this for cats. My current ones are rescues that I didn't raise from early kittenhood, so their behaviors are still surprising.

Lilly is partial to everything humans eat, including kale and unattended chocolate (unsafe!), but snubs most cat foods. She's indoor/outdoor, and it seems her favorite diet is small rodents and grass.

Dash is indoor-only, except for periodic leash walks. He isn't interested in any human food except dairy, but will eat all cat foods, treats, houseplants, and wool socks to excess if permitted, as well as the occasional house-mouse that Lilly lets him have for training. According to the cat rescue, there's a good chance he's eaten people given the circumstances he was rescued from, and we still worry when he decides fingers and toes are toys.

And... Lilly is now chewing on a cardboard box. 🤷‍♀️

I randomly purchased some sundried tomato Wheat Thins and apparently they are made of the same ingredients as Temptations cat treats (popularly known as kitty crack) because my boy will try to fight me for them. Claws them straight out of my hand like a little savage with no home training. I have to break one up for him to actually eat the cracker but he will lick all the flavoring off a whole piece. He's about 2lbs overweight as it is and he gets a daily ration of Temptations already so now I have to eat the Wheat Thins only in the kitchen when he's sleeping in the other room and hope the bag crinkle doesn't wake him.

I think the commonality is brewer's yeast/yeast extract. It's a glutamate-rich flavor enhancer. Glutamate is probably why no mushrooms, Chinese food, or soy sauce-flavored anything will be safe...

Oh, and the bag crackle? Everything that sounds like a Temptations bag casts a Spell of Cat Summoning.
