I like you (or the you who describes "meditating wrongly").
My experience is meditation is that there is no wrong. There's meditating and not meditating. Being unable to remain concentrated or clinging or avoiding mental constructs is not bad meditating: it's just meditating. When I've taught meditators before, I assure them that they're not "doing it wrong" because almost all meditators start the same way.
I breathe. I brea—oh look at that shiny thing oh shit I forgot to pay attention to my breathing! I breathe...
