      There are three different things that contribute to success in varying degrees: luck, drive, and talent. Having two can bring decent success but it takes all three to get to the very top. There are a lot of people that have privileges and advantages that just coast. Then there are the handful of people who not only get all the right breaks but also work ridiculously hard to take full advantage of them.

    This was my problem with Cal Newport's "So Good They Can't Ignore You" (which I dropped around 2/3, so maybe he does explore this). Yeah, I get it, if I work really hard on a thing I will become successful. Why should I do it? The mere prospect of success in the future is never enough. There should be a motivation, a desire right now to become better. If someone is able to create that feeling on a whim, they are unstoppable.
