Damn, this came out of nowhere it feels like. Unrelated but even with top class doctors and facilities available, seems like its very hard for humans to crack the 100 mark right now

What we see is a massive lag effect. These are the people born around the Great Depression era. They were children in those conditions. There's only so much doctors can do for you 100 years later...

What we see is a massive lag effect. These are the people born around the Great Depression era. They were children in those conditions. There's only so much doctors can do for you 100 years later if your starting conditions were suboptimal. The people born into optimal conditions today, who maintain healthy habits and have access to good healthcare and luck out with the right genes - they will go the distance, the rest of us just won't be around to see it.

I've heard optimistic things about people born in more recent years. I would bet the average person born in 1950 or later had better nutrition growing up than the average person born in 1920 did...

Yes, that is true. I was born in 2000 myself, wonder if I will live to see the 22nd Century. But even then I don't think that anyone born in the 20th Century will survive to even see past 2120-30...

But even then I don't think that anyone born in the 20th Century will survive to even see past 2120-30 barring some extraordinary scientific discoveries. The current record for the oldest human to ever live was around 120-125 if I'm not mistaken

The record is 122, and she's the only person to have made it past 120 that's verified.
