I’d love a 4 day work week but articles like these raise doubts. All of these articles show either very recent converts or companies that went back to 5 days. They all showed huge benefits or at least no losses from 4 days. So why don’t we see companies that have been on 4 day weeks for years and not in their trial periods.

My guess is that in the trial period you have everyone trying their best to prove the change works so that it continues. But no one can try their best for a long time, eventually most people will revert to their usual pace.

It had scaled back on meetings and social events, and employees increased the pace of their day.

This is multiple things changed so it makes it difficult to attribute increased productivity on one of the changes. You don’t have to work 4 days to reduce pointless meetings. While they may have retained productivity with 4 days. Eventually someone will raise the question of why not have 5 days with reduced meetings and social events.
