Tildes Video Thread

So, quite a few people don't like/watch video content, and don't like seeing the homepage filled with videos. Let's try something new, see if it sticks.

What are the best videos you have watched this past week/fortnight?

If you want to watch a good performance instead, Santigold performed on Tiny Desk recently and was charming and wonderful despite her issues with having a stationary mic.

I've gotten into the habit of sharing accordion music videos I like on Mastodon. Most recently, people seemed to like this loop station cover of Cumbia Sampuesana.

I've been getting back into running and my landing page has now been filled with running videos. I'd say the most interesting one I've come across is about the Barkley Ultra-race. It's long, about 1.5 hours, but such an interesting look at the grueling, kooky race and the folks who started it.

For shorter content it has to be Becorns. Think of them as almost like nature based action figures. The guy who makes them/runs the channel was a designer at lego for years and his creativity really shows through.

Oh, and a very fun short on high lining.

My guess is that with winter set in here I'm watching videos that give me more ways, or at least a proxy, to be outside while it's dark and rainy.

Edit: I have to share this video I just came across of Catherine Destivelle free soloing in Mali back in the 80s. The overhung sections blew my mind. Also, it's astonishing to see just how close we are in time to truly different cultures.

    Tifo IRL

Podcasts aren't really my thing. The only one I've ever listened to on the regular was The Guardian Football Weekly podcast, and that was seventeen years ago. (Time flies!). It was never the same when host James Richardson left and I stopped listening.

In the back of my mind I knew if I was ever returning to podcasts it was going to be a football related one; and so it came to pass. The Tifo Football Podcast has taken the kind hearted banter that I loved from The Guardian's and added the kind of detailed tactical analysis that you'd expect from modern football commentary in 2023.

After getting hooked on their Qatar World Cup coverage, I was very happy to see their first video of the new year drop the other day, picking up the coverage of the second half of the Premier League football season.
