    Still, I don't think it's worth debating at this zoom level. To zoom out, security measures shouldn't be targeted at people with specific political beliefs, because a tactic could be used by anyone. Or, if we zoom in, investigations should be about some more specific group than "the left" or "the right."

    No time to read more than the first few paragraphs right not, but I've heard a decent amount of this kind of stuff recently. People saying you have to do your own research to get to the truth but any statistics can't be trusted because they're surely manipulated. Apparently the only thing that can be trusted is the local news (mostly reporting on that local murder) or your favorite right wing commentator. And when they insist they have studies or good sources that they'll send you when they get the chance, they end up never sending anything for some totally unknown reason.

    Anyway, I guess I had more time than I thought. Hopefully I can read the rest and share some more in-depth thoughts later but this has been bothering me based on some recent conversations and really getting me down hearing people express willful ignorance and frame it as the other side being hypocritical and described how even though they hate him, they'll just have to vote for Trump because the alternative "is..."

    Please let me know if I'm wrong, but ~news might not be the ideal place for this article. It's political commentary, but not related to any specific current event. It seems to discuss events from the 60s through late 2010s so I wouldn't necessarily consider it "news".
    ~misc is where I've seen similar political commentary pieces. Maybe take a look at recent posts over there and let me know if you agree.
