Perun's April 21st release on the recent state of interaction between Iran and Israel.

Perun is an Australian Defence-Economics analyst who publishes content on Patreon and YouTube. From my experience he produces thoughtful, in-depth, data-driven exploration and analysis on a range of defence topics with a side helping of dry humor. Generally he puts out a video every Sunday.

He also has a gaming channel where he does well edited plays of games like Terra invicta. Can’t recommend him enough

Another great one on Youtube is Anders Puck Nielsen who was a lieutenant commander with the Royal Danish Navy and now a military analyst at the Royal Danish Defence College - so his credentials are in order lol but unlike Perun, his videos are short and bitesized and good for a quick "read" on current events, like for example his video Is there an alliance between Russia, China, and Iran? was very useful I thought.

Anyway I really liked this week's video from Perun. What he talks about can oftentimes be such niche topics, but for a layman, it's useful as a guide of sorts. It's not so technical and specific that you can't understand it, but it's also not dumbed down to the level of what you might see on a news show for example. Plus, it allows me to oftentimes entirely ignore certain parts of the internet where discourse tends to be black and white. I only wish that there were more like them on Youtube because written analyses are not something I quite have the attention span for.

Hm, interesting. I'm listening to one of his videos now (the one on targeting Russian oil infrastructure), thank you for sharing that.

There is a of course a lot of guess work involved, so everything has to be taken with many grains of salt (as he makes very clear), but from what we do know, it's pretty clear this was an extremely expensive attack and defense. And it all sits in some weird middle ground of not war but certainly war adjacent.
