I <3 LA/BOLA but half the time I can't tell if the LAOP is trolling, extremely over-exaggerating the situation or genuinely that stupid. However most of the actual attorneys there, especially the criminal defense ones, seem to often respond to trolling accusations with, "I once had a client who did <something infinitely worse than LAOP> so I can believe it." And I guess ultimately it doesn't matter anyways since it's highly entertaining, regardless of whether it's a troll of not. :P

That said—I kind of hate those subreddits. In my view, it's desperate people giving one-sided facts and then a bunch of people guessing at what the legal advice should be. I imagine it's probably responsible for more pecuniary loss, wrecked family law cases, and loss of liberty (jail time) than any other subreddit.
Yeah, I get why you would feel that way about those subreddits, especially as an attorney yourself. But I am not fan of the LA/BOLA because they are "useful" or "wise" but purely for their...
Yeah, I get why you would feel that way about those subreddits, especially as an attorney yourself. But I am not fan of the LA/BOLA because they are "useful" or "wise" but purely for their entertainment value and giving me a peak into the crazy word of criminals, litigation and crazy people. It's a bit like Jerry Springer or Cops for the internet, social media age; a guilty pleasure but a pleasure nonetheless.
If people wanted a truly "useful/wise" Legal Advice subreddit, every single comment other than "Consult an attorney" and info on how to do that would be instantly removed. That wouldn't be very fun though. ;)
I'd allow three responses: "You potentially have a good case and should definitely talk to an attorney." "You might have a good case and should talk to an attorney." "I'm legally obligated to say...

I just assume all absurd stories on reddit are true because it's more entertaining that way.
Yikes.
