I changed the title since originally it was blaming reddit for deleting the post and account, and I think that's very unlikely. Two things that are much more likely, in my opinion:

    • The user was getting harassed a ton in response to the post and just decided to delete their account instead of continuing to deal with it.
    • Someone managed to compromise the account and then deleted both the post and the account itself.

Not related to the deletion, but the admins also made a post earlier on the subject, but not in a very prominent place: https://www.reddit.com/r/ModSupport/comments/9hjkv5/so_about_those_suspicious_activity_reports/

The difference between Reddit and Tildes? I trust Deimos to edit content in good faith.

I don't see a problem yet either, especially because of the transparency. That is the real key though, not just having someone you personally trust at the helm.

This would be my take on it. I doubt the Reddit admins would want to trigger the absolute shitstorm that would ensue if they deleted an account in these circumstances (even removing the post has caused them a lot of strife). Despite what people like to think, they're not that stupid!

There is a reason, after over a decade of being an active Redditor (and mod) I have chosen to put my faith in @Deimos. =)

Reddit deleted his post _and his user account_

I think you need to provide evidence that the Reddit admins deleted /u/DivestTrump's account. The moderator in the post you've linked wrote "OP has even deleted his account for unknown reasons." If you know otherwise, please prove it. Please don't contribute to the existing fake news on the internet by making unverified assumptions or indulging in hyperbole.

Eh, to be fair, if he had been shadowbanned or had his account forcefully deleted they wouldn't exactly announce it. It may be impossible to prove either way.

I totally agree that the Reddit admins would not announce the fact that they deleted this user's account. Therefore, we need to question @Leo's source. How does @Leo know the Reddit admins deleted that user account (rather than the user deleting their own account), when the only people who know for sure (the admins and the user) aren't telling? How did @Leo learn what happened?

It most likely is just another example of a reddit witch hunt. I don't normally visit political subs on Reddit, I have never heard of this one specifically.

I will admit I commented before actually looking (my bad).

There's no evidence that Reddit deleted his post or his account. I suspect they asked him to remove it because having these details publicly available interferes with their ability to covertly combat the spam/attacks. It's also quite likely he was being attacked by the less savory parts of Reddit.

That being said, the user has deleted their account. The content of the post you linked is archived here.

    actual stance on enforcing reddiquette

That's the thing, they have banned a massive amount of subs over the last year or so. Everything from extremist subs, racist subs, subs promoting illegal activities to porn and BDSM subs. Not all of the subs they have banned are bad and removing a lot of them are just an attempt whitewash the website and make it more appealable to the media and new users. I agree with a lot of the subs that have been removed, disagree with some others. But ultimately gone are the days of "there is a sub for everything".

Bottom line though, when they have been aggressively whitewashing the website in this way, why on earth has the T_D been allowed to continue to exist and why have they done (apparently) nothing about the alleged site wide manipulation from a foreign power.

I mean, they come down hard on Unidan for manipulating the system to make his helpful posts more visible, but they allow an entire nation to manipulate content on a massive scale?

The entire situation seems weird to me, if it is in fact true.
