Daily Mail are going to say this is in the public interest. I think they're wrong. It's interesting to the public, but that doesn't mean it's in the public interest.

Politicians are allowed to have private lives, and they should be allowed to have chaotic unconventional private lives. If she'd spent time on her campaign talking about traditional family values or similar then maybe it's in the public interest to point out the hypocrisy. But we need to watch out for that too: I'd prefer someone to have ideals and occasionally not meet them than to be an amoral pathological arsehole.

Reporting on sexual misconduct is certainly in the public interest — i.e. where someone has a sexual relationship with someone who reports to them, for example. Reporting on someone's sexual encounters if otherwise not legally or ethically (relative to their job, not anyone's personal judgements) is rather less so, if at all. Posting images - even censored - in my mind very firmly crosses the line.

As you mentioned, even public figured are allowed private lives.

It certainly seems that the ethical politicians who make a mistake resign, leaving the evil politicians who don't resign in power.
