    In one hand, this would have added 4 years to the progressive movement's life and put Obama in a more accurate position in the US conscious and I thought it was a missed opportunity.

    In the other hand, this claim from a manager of the Obama capaign cited in the article:

    “Every president who has gotten a real primary has lost a general [election].”

    Is very much accurate, even if Obama was practically all-powerful electorally (although a primary challenge is probably the best way to undo that.)
