    I wouldn't really call it that surprising. They both want many of the same things, they've just rooting for different teams.

          Germany and Japan where tricky AF though. They didn't want eternal war, just a local war to conquer the grounds they saw as "theirs". Germany had no intention to conquer Korea, and Japan had zero...

        Jihadist is a tricky term. "Jihad" is something completely different than what it often seems to mean in western media...

        Buuut as its often described, it can vary from group to group - some groups are very very clear about the end goal, which does include a west that is an enemy to all muslims. If the end goal is a battle that has to happen at one specific point - and that forcing all muslims in to one camp or the other - its obviously ok if that other group have similar goals even if they intend to be winning that future conflict.
