Titanic re-released in theaters this past weekend. And because it came out before I was born (and it’s re-release from 2012 was before I was interested in movies), I wanted to watch it in theaters for the first time. It wasn’t until I was well into the movie that I realized, I had never actually seen it before. I had watched a few scenes individually, from whenever it was on TV or from internet clips, but I had mostly only experienced it through pop culture osmosis.

It’s good, it’s really good. It’s probably my favorite James Cameron film. It just makes sense why this was so popular at the time and why it remains popular to this day. Cameron really does know how to mix love stories with spectacle. Is it cheesy? Sure, Cameron is a cheesy filmmaker, but there’s clear artistry to his cheesiness.
