The film mostly plays it straight, and it generally works imo. At some point you get engrossed enough into the plot that you don't mind the weirdness. Interestingly, I think the meta aspect actually works in the film's favor, throughout the film I kept thinking to myself "these 2 people are never going to have any physical contact, aren't they".
Spoiler thoughts about the film:
Overall I like it, but I feel mixed about the ending. The reveal of why this couple has difficulty staying together is quite good. But it rely on selective editing to works, which feels kind of like cheating since there was no indication that the film could have an unreliable narrator. That said, moving pass that, we can interpret the missing scenes as the guy being oblivious to that aspects of his behaviors, and the onslaught of flashback in the end indicating his realization and self reflection. So I get the intent, but not quite on board with the execution.
As for the couple dynamics, I haven't been in a relationships so hopefully people who has can share their thoughts on this.
Let me know what you think about the film. Youtube-native feature length films is a category I didn't know possible. This Youtuber has a whole playlist of other films he had done in the past too. If anyone knows any others like this also let me know.
For folks with face blindness, if the actor plays it pretty straight, it can be indistinguishable from two actors. That's probably our only advantage ever.

Edit: I think I found the category this belongs to: What is Folk Film Making?
