The pandemic era was certainly interesting, I’m surprised 2021 is considered part of this though honestly. But if we’re including that year as well I think West Side Story is the second best film of the 2020s so far.

Sound of Metal has been running around my brain, I think that’s actually the best film of 2020. Even if it’s not reflective of that era in the way Nomadland weirdly hit the zeitgeist, it’s an interesting examination into the before times.

Speaking of which C’mon C’mon is probably the last film to release that examined life pre-pandemic as it was shot in 2019. It’s kind of like a wrap up of life in the 2010s, and uses the narrative vehicle of Phoenix’s character being a documentarian to comment on the social-political climate of the times.

Palm Springs and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm I think are great examinations of life during the pandemic in two different ways. Palm Springs being reflective of the mundanity and repetitiveness of lockdown and Borat being reflective of the political economy of the time.

Theres also so many Netflix originals that have been lost to time that I remember vividly. The Devil All The Time, The 40 Year Old Version, Rebecca, The Midnight Sky, Enola Holmes, Hubie Halloween. It was like the peak of Netflix original films.
