The Second will be premiering at Fantasia Int’l Film Festival on July 20th. Followed by a special 45-min talk from Taylor Ramos & Tony Zhou, along with a Q&A session.

I'm very excited to see this! Ramos and Zhou's essays were thoughtful and illuminating and been missing them ever since they retired. I cannot wait to see what they do next. I'm sure it will be worthwhile.

PS: I realize the title doesn't match the group I'm posting this in, but I think it's more appropriate given Taylor Ramos and Tony Zhou's previous work, as well as what the announcement is about: a series of essays about films in general, as well as a short film titled The Second.

EFAP, along with NerdWriter, were the first video essayists I ever watched. They were really insightful when I was first getting into movies and basically taught me how to analyze. I remember reading their retirement letter back in 2017.
I wasn't necessarily sad, but I don't think any of the YouTube channels that were inspired by them ever reached their level. Thomas Flight I think is the closest, and I would describe him as the actual successor to Tony and Taylor despite people trying to make Lessons from the Screenplay that.
Looking forward to this stuff though, it'll be interesting to see how they've changed in the roughly ten years it's been since the channel died.
