This film, also from Netflix, originally started shooting in 2021 with John Boyega in the lead, Boyega would abandon the project (not notifying anybody he quite literally just up and left the film). The film was recast and started back up in 2022. It’s been in purgatory since and Netflix is finally dumping it this September.

I feel like Sauliner really missed an opportunity with his career. He could have been a filmmaker with a following like Robert Eggers or Ari Aster but instead decided to stick with Netflix were his films get lost in the noise. Had he stuck with A24 (who distributed Green Room) or established relationships with other distributors such as Focus or Searchlight (like how Eggers moved to Focus with Northman and now Nosferatu) Sauliner might be a bigger name in the “indie” film scene.

Shame too, as much as I didn’t care for Hold the Dark, Blue Ruin and Green Room are fantastic thrillers. Really seems like a genre voice got squashed.

Awesome! I let the meh reviews of Hold the Dark keep me from watching it thus far. Going to give it a shot soon. Blue Ruin and Green Room are excellent. Murder Party was an interesting experience....

Murder Party was an interesting experience. Hard to recommend it to just about anybody, but I'm glad I watched it.

    What the heck, Boyega?
