Watched The Truman Show with my 11 yo and it was a good experience and made me think. I think I’ve reach a point where I really don’t care about remakes and unoriginality anymore. It’s just how it is and have probably always been this way in some sense. With that in mind why haven’t this movie been remade yet? I mean the leaps of technology since the original and dystopian present we’re currently living seems like a perfect fit. Maybe get Charlie Brooker and we’re good to go. Not to take anything from the original because it’s a damn good movie with excellent performances all around but it’s also a bit campy/overdone at times which made sense at the time but I feel we need a more sinister take on this right about now.

The one movie I can think of in the past ten years with a similar concept was 2016’s Nerve. Which was about people live-streaming and telling users what to do in order to win money.

I guess you’re right but that’s also why I was talking more sinister. One thing these streamers have that Truman didn’t have is control. Well at least control over what they broadcast (not how people react). While we’ve seen The Joe Schmo Show and similar reality shows and streamers testing these boundaries we have yet to follow a person from birth without the person knowing it. I don’t know why I’m pitching this idea because it sounds awful in every way and I realise the ethical and legal implications. I guess I’m just cynical about where we are and where we’re headed.

Again I just don’t think it would work as a high concept. And things that have used essence’s of it in modern times (such as the aforementioned Nerve but also Don’t Worry Darling) don’t really gain an audience.

I watched KPop Demon Hunters (2025) on a whim a few days ago, pretty solid movie overall, I rate it an 7/10. It's a pretty simple movie storywise, with great musics and great visual design. I feel they do a great job discussing the themes of self-love and acceptance while also touching on issues with the KPop industry like expecting perfection from idols.

Criticisms with maybe minor spoilers I do feel the movie is a bit rushed. There's a lot that just gets introduced to you and you have to accept it and move on. I feel like they could've expanded on the lore of the demons and hunters, prime sequel/prequel material imo.

I also feel like they could've explored a lot more into Zoey and Mira as well as the other demons in the Saja Boys band. I get that this is supposed to be Rumi's story but they just introduce Zoey and Mira as Rumis' sidekicks basically and don't touch on their backstories. They also don't explain the other demons in the Saja Boys besides Jinu. Though, I sort of understand not exploring these much given the 90 minute run time.
