While I do think these premieres are prone to hyperbole, even taking that into account I think it’s clear critics like Marty Supreme more. I saw a couple of tweets from real critics, the ones that don’t use ChatGPT to write their reactions, and people seemed to agree it’s one of the best of the year and that Josh Safdie took all the Uncut Gems energy with him. Smashing Machine didn’t have reactions at that level, any praise came from European critics and the industry (it won an award at Venice).
