I do appreciate that Saw had sort of honed its premise by the end of the first movie. People locked in a room and are maimed in various ways by traps designed to reflect whatever "sin" they committed. Add a twist at the end and BAM! you've got yourself a Saw movie.

It took Friday the 13th until the 3rd movie to figure out the core premise of the series.

I do think the Saw franchise has a much lower ratio of good to bad films when compared to other series, however.
