I love it when the first trailer for a movie is ambiguous enough to not give me a full idea of what's going on, but convey the overall tone the film is going for. That way I can then decide to abstain from seeing any newer trailers that might show more for people who were on the fence.

Midsommar is the last one where I saw the first trailer (I should've stopped when I saw it was Ari Aster, but I couldn't help myself) and have abstained from seeing the second one, so I'm going in kinda blind. Especially with horror films I check in on doesthedogdie.com for anything I might especially want to avoid (mainly rape scenes) but otherwise go in trying to know as minimum as possible.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this. Movie adaptations of Stephen King books historically haven't done much for me. I won't argue quality of the movies, I don't feel like that is important for this discussion, all that really matters for this is that I didn't care for most of them. It is being directed by Mike Flanagan who made the Netflix show The Haunting of Hill House which I was a really big fan of. On top of that I really love me some Ewan McGregor. Dr. Sleep is one of the few books by King that I haven't read, so I am hoping that not knowing the plot at all going in will help me (a) be more surprised by things and (b) be less disappointed if they change something I like.

Nothing they do it this movie will be able to make me even 1/1000000th as crushed and angry as the bullshit they pulled with the Dark Tower movie, which was my favorite book series growing up. So at least they know they can't make the worst Stephen King adaptation?

Out of curiosity, what did it get egregiously wrong?

So the only thing I can say that I'll give them is that it isn't supposed to be a clean adaptation of the books and is supposed to be a continuation of the universe. Which is how they rationalized changing major plot points from the book to the movie: they're all the same but different. Its still dumb and I hate them though.

This looks fantastic and having read the book, am really stoked to see a lot of the elements that made it so gripping appear to be maintained in the film. Can't wait.

A while ago I'd heard the sequel book was laughably terrible from a few friends, so when I'd heard they were doing a sequel I was like "hoo boy, that'll be interesting..." but this trailer looked surprisingly decent. Not too big of a fan of the glowy-eye look in some of those shots, but whatever.

    Looking forward to it.

I actually enjoyed the sequel, though it's not so much a sequel as it is a separate story that happens to have a character in common.

Even though this is an official channel the video is full of compression artifacts. I even downloaded to check if there was something wrong with my connection. Also: I couldn't what it till the end because I'm a wuss I was able to watch after resizing the video to the smallest viewable size and put the audio on minimum. Looks good, but I won't watch it.
