Crime/mystery/thriller movies

I watched Knives Out last night with my mother and we loved it. We used to love watching Hitchcock films, I’m in the mood for something more recent with a similar vibe. Like a modern Agatha Christie murder mystery. Any suggestions?

The new Murder on the Orient Express (ft. Kenneth Branagh as Christie's Hercule Poirot) was decent, if you haven't seen it yet.

Gosford Park was Agatha Christie inspired, and won a Best Writing Oscar so might be right up your alley.

It's basically a much sillier version of Knives Out, but Clue is actually surprisingly good and still holds up too.

For more modern, detective/PI and less classical Agatha Christie-like mystery movies:

LA Confidential is an homage to seedy noir detective films and also won a Best Writing Oscar.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is an action-comedy murder mystery, that is brilliantly written and acted, and also won a bunch of awards. As is and did a similar-ish movie, The Nice Guys, also directed by Shane Black.

Usual Suspects is more of a modern heist movie than detective focused movie, but has a very unique and compelling whodunnit aspect to it, and also won some Oscars.

And on the darker end of the spectrum, the original Swedish version of Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is truly fantastic, though fair warning, it features a very brutal rape scene. The follow ups The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest are also both excellent but also feature super dark subject matter and some disturbing scenes. And while I love David Fincher, don't bother with the US remake of Dragon Tattoo.

Edit: Though speaking of Fincher and really dark mystery/crime movies, Se7en, Zodiac and Gone Girl are all excellent as well.

That's all I can really think of for now, but I will add more later if I remember any. Edit: Thought of some more. These are starting to get further and further from Agatha Christie-likes, but here's a few more crime/mystery movies I remember enjoying that might pique your interest.

    The Fugitive
    A Time to Kill
    The Negotiator
    Pelican Brief
    Primal Fear
    A Few Good Men
    Spartan

Thank you! This show is on my radar but it’s not available on Brazilian Netflix. Right now I’m looking specifically for movies because it’s a nice thing to have a complete story every night.

CBC Gem has Murdoch Mysteries... but TBH I'm not sure if Gem is available outside Canada. I do second the recommendation though, it's a cheesy but fun show.
