Lupe is a legit contender for greatest rap lyricist of all time, if not outright holder of the crown, and while I expect his catalog and his work with SOSA will get him his due among his peers, I have a hunch he will largely remain enough outside the mainstream to be truly recognized as such, even by most avid rap listeners. I am really interested to see what comes from his forays into academia.
