I'm curious if there's anybody here who's like this. Either doing it without writing things down, or doing it minimally. I don't know why but I find it very difficult to do, and it stops me from actually learning/studying. I feel like it slows me down, significantly. It also feels like a chore. I feel like part of this may be because I'm in information security? Like, there's a lot of reading and researching going on, then immediate practicing and applying. Even when I have to take tests. I just read and listen or whatever else and that's it. Maybe in other fields, taking notes is a big thing, or maybe it's just me. I also have other interests, but yet still, I simply can't bring myself to write things down. I just prefer to absorb everything, in whatever pace I like, sometimes it's slow, sometimes it's fast. If I ever decide that I'm going to take notes while learning/studying, I'd stare at my notebook/software for a very long time. I'd sit with one chapter/slide for quite awhile. At the same time, I truly admire people who take notes and write stuff. I do wish I was like them sometimes. Is anybody out here the same? Even though I really want to hear from people who are similar, everyone else can join the discussion too. What do you do? How do you do it? What is your preference? Do you think there's a "better" way to do things? Could taking notes be "superior" to the opposite?

The people behind Archive.org do great work when it comes to preserving the internet, but I feel like we shouldn't (perhaps fully) rely on them alone. The same work they do, we should be doing ourselves, and it's possible in ways with the power of Wget. ArchiveBox is really easy to set up, it has a nice web UI, and it has several different outputs i.e. PDF, HTML, PNG and even sends your links to Wayback Machine, but the cool thing about it is that you decentralize and archive websites locally. That way if anything ever happened to Archive.org, you have your own offline internet of whatever you chose, which I feel like is an even cooler thing about doing this. The developer behind ArchiveBox talks about all of this in this video. I would like to add that, I don't think everything should be preserved and archived. There's a lot of crap on the internet. This is why choosing is nice, and in a way, it feels important for whoever is interested in archiving to have their own setup. What you choose to archive and what I choose to archive will probably be quite different, so everyone's ArchiveBox would be special and unique.

This is interesting because especially in the times we're living in now, for me personally, watching podcasts and interviews makes me like artists and bands before really listening to their music. I may not be familiar with their stuff a lot but hearing them talk and their stories would potentially make me listen to their albums.

But then again, there are artists like Buckethead with massive outputs, and I've known Buckethead for decades, I love his music. Yet, to this day I am yet to complete his discography, and I don't necessarily like everything, but I'll always check his stuff out.

I don't drink alcohol, and always get weird stares after the third Nestea/Aquarius, plus I get bored from drinking the same thing over and over again.

I mean... Your choice of drinks is much better than theirs health-wise, so maybe you should give them weird stares. But seriously, what I feel like saying is, why do you or should you match their ways of drinking? Like, people who drink alcohol keep drinking because they want to get/stay drunk and probably get smashed, eventually. Could it be possible that you feel inclined to have a glass/bottle of whatever, because they do that?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like the answer is yes. The "data requests" are minor (to some extent) i.e. IP address, recovery email if it's enabled, or payment method. All which can be anonymized, right? The way I see it, ProtonMail provides the user many ways to protect themselves. They let you register and use their service not only through VPN but also Tor. It sounds harsh to say but given everything that's laid out, if I got caught... Perhaps it's my fault. I don't know.

I think coercion comes from extremism of something like religion or anything really, but not inherently whatever the thing is. So it's not necessarily religion, really. It's people, their so-called interpretations or whatever and what they do with it here. I also think you can't assume what anybody knows or doesn't know about anything here and say things like that. It's not cool or kind. You could've just said the last two sentences and it would've been chill. Anyway.

If I understand this correctly, they can know who invited them (by email, or username, or both? or none?)—but the person who invited them cannot know either?

A record of which users you invite will be kept internally (but won't be visible to any users, including you). Please invite people that you think will be good community members—if you repeatedly invite users that cause issues, you may lose inviting privileges.
