What are your less-traditional Christmas songs?
My favourite not-all-that-Christmassy song that it wouldn't really be Christmas without is Tar Barrel in Dale by The Unthanks. It's really more of a new year's song and it's certainly not very jolly. But it is very lovely, I think best enjoyed on a cold afternoon in mid-December, with a nice hot drink and a warm coat.
White Wine in the Sun - Tim Minchin
Perfectly sums up my feelings as someone who is Definitely Not Religious, but still considers Christmas my favorite holiday.
Player's Ball by Outkast! It was made because their label requested all artists to produce a Christmas song for a seasonal compilation, and so they just rapped about what they did on Christmas: had all their cool friends come over to chill and smoke weed :)
Damn, I never realized that was a Christmas song but now that I think about it, the bells in the beginning take on a whole new meaning.
I only learned that it was a Christmas song after watching the docuseries Hip-Hop Evolution :)
Weird Al - The Night Santa Went Crazy
Family tradition that formed is cruising around checking out all the Christmas light displays while playing Dark Side of the Moon.
