That album is stacked, I was just looking at it and haven't gotten around to listening to it yet. So far it's great.

I recently got more into drumming. I'm almost 40 and I've always loved Danny Carey's style. I don't have any interest in 'simpler' drumming, so I have a steep climb, but it's super satisfying learning some of the difficult grooves. I can't play anything at speed, but I learned the first groove in Triad and as cliche as it sounds, playing it feels like it literally expands my mind. I suppose it's the limb independence - doing this thing that you don't do anywhere else in life. Still super hard for me, (especially getting the high-hat clicks in with the rest of the groove) but very fun.

Whitechapel - The Valley. I went to a concert they headlined (and was opened by Entheos, Signs of the Swarm, and Archspire) and wasn't really feeling the concert because I was unfamiliar with the source material, I had listened to their album Kin, which is a sequel concept album to The Valley.

The show was great, but I wasn't going to stick around for a triple encore when I could dodge traffic. I was pretty much overwhelemed by that point because I was at my brother's that afternoon and just found it was a triple-opener (I thought it was just Archspire opening), but I definitely found some new music to listen to, and would definitely see all of them live again.

QOTSA released their first single off their new album!

The song is titled "Emotion Sickness". Listened to it a couple times now, I quite like it! I'm not sure what to expect for the rest of the album, but I'm going to be trying my best to not listen to any more of the singles that are released. If an album only has 8-9 songs and 5 of them are released as singles, it ruins a lot of the fun of discovery for me.

Javier Santiago, Danielle Wertz - Gaia's Warning
Love the vocals on this one, super ethereal.
Fat Tony, Blockhead - I'm Thinking 'Bout Moving
I love this one because I've been in this situation, I think a lot of us have, being in a shitty place with shitty roommates but not wanting to move cause it's easy, then finally getting out in your own place and being relieved. Love songs like this, they're like the equivalent of a TV bottle episode and I'm all for it.

I've revisited Yo La Tengo's 2000 album And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out. Choice track: You Can Have It All. It's mellow noise pop which evokes strong feelings of nostalgia for me, despite 2000 being my birth year.

Induced by the coronation season here in Britain, I've been binging on a bit of Britpop. The Scottish band Teenage Fanclub belt out optimistic jangle pop songs (I recommend their 1997 album Songs From Northern Britain, which seems to capture the upwards zeitgeist of the time). On bank holiday Monday I couldn't resist playing Blur's Bank Holiday from their 1994 album Parklife.

Other than those, my Spotify 'top played this month' list includes Autechre, Slowdive, Kate Bush, Julia Holter, Mazzy Star, and Sam Prekop. There's a bit of a dichotomy, and it boils down to where I'm listening to music and what sort of mood I'm in (ambient or shoegazing is better for when I need to hunker down and get some work done).

I’ve been getting into Vansire lately. There album Angel Youth is great for a relaxing drive.
