Use Song.link when possible to give everyone the link to their favorite music provider
Hey everyone!
I was recently exposed to a new website called Song.Link. You can search for songs, albums, or artists that you like, and generate a link that provides access to the music you found in all of the major music streaming services.
I think it'd be great if we could make it standard to post a song.link when possible!
Edit: learning to markdown
Ideally I eventually hope to have this kind of functionality built into Tildes itself, so that we could do something like have links to the same song/album/whatever on all the different services available in the sidebar of music submissions. I think there's a huge amount of potential for taking advantage of metadata like this that other link-aggregator-ish sites really haven't done.
A feature like that would make ~music one of the best places on the internet to search for new music. It'd also be cool if the links in each subgroup were aggregated into a playlist.
Edit for clarity
Don't even get @Amarok started on this kind of stuff: https://tildes.net/~music/4k/whats_in_a_link_a_recipe_for_using_the_web_to_find_a_spectacular_amount_of_information_about_music
Protip: Either remove the brackets from the link or format it as
[text](url)
to make it clickableOops, thanks! Still getting a hang of the markdown
So...how is this better than going to a service I am already subscribed to and searching there? If I have Spotify, I don’t care too much if an artist or group is on Apple Music or Pandora.
I think it's less about searching for music and more about sharing music with those that might not use the same music platform as you. This service makes it so if I want to share a cool song on the internet anyone can get a link to the platform they use.
Aha!
Now this makes more sense.
The idea is that if you want to share that song with other people they might not all have Spotify and this link will still work for them.
It's free to use! It simply generates the links to the album or song in question for all music streaming services.
So for example, if I use Spotify, and want a share a song, I could use Song.Link to share it on Tilde. Then, if you use Google Play, you will be able to get a link to the same album in Google Play without having to go search it up - it'll automatically take you there when you click on the link I posted to Tilde.
Below is an example link for Daft Punk:
Random Access Memories
Hm... First Opera gave me a certificate warning. If I ignore that, my office has it blocked for "camoflaging its identity".
The concept sounds great, but it seems like this is a sketchy implementation.
Hmmm, strange. I've never seen this issues before. I'll bring it up with the devs over there.
I love the idea, though. Too often, I get links from people sharing new music, and it's often a link to a service I'm not subscribed to.
Sounds like a great service! Unfortunately, it's pretty hard to get the site to load correctly without whitelisting a bunch of third-party trackers.
