Interesting sound there... when I sent it down into my brain looking for friends it came back with Low. They are a criminally unknown, highly experimental band that covers a lot of territory, but the comforting melancholia is part of their core sound. Sadly they lost Mimi to cancer last year, so I'm not sure if the band will continue. She left us with thirteen excellent albums.
You'd probably have some luck checking out the slowcore genre. It's not one I've taken the time to get overly familiar with, but that doom wad's soundtrack seems right at home there. Spotify has a slowcore sampler that might help get you started.
Thanks for the Low suggestion! I've had a listen to a few songs and, while not quite the same niche, it definitely tickles some of the same feelings. Actually, their sound helped me remember a...

Actually, their sound helped me remember a band I've come across before called Have a Nice Life which also has a similar color to it. I'll be sure to go through some slowcore mixes for more.

Recently a Doom mod called MyHouse.wad made strong waves in the YouTube circles. It is an intricately designed interactive experience, and one thing that really stood out to me is the soundtrack that plays over a large part of it. It's a heavily distorted and time-warped track that some have called unsettling, but to me it feels more calming and oddly nostalgic.
I'm really interested in finding more music similar to it, but I'm not familiar with the genre. How would you describe this type of music, and do you have any recommendations like it?
This is really weird because I just watched a run through of MyHouse.wad this morning, and that lead me to House of Leaves which I went to the library to check out this afternoon. I don't play or...

I don't play or follow the doom community, I just saw the run through on my YouTube suggestion and for no real reason watched it. Now I see this post here.
It's crazy how the internet can take a bunch of people down the same rabbit hole at once.

The original track seems to have been inspired by this project called Everywhere at the End of Time that sonically explores the experience of dementia. I'm curious to tackle it, but at 6+ hours it's hardly a casual listen.
From my own memory I can also recall Ametsub fitting pretty well with the glitchy atmospheric ambience of the original track, and also the soundtrack to the Saya no Uta visual novel (volume warning) that blends peaceful melodic elements with heaps of tension.
Trying to look similar music up before had lead me to these compilations of dreamcore/emptycore. I'm not sure how much validity there is to these genre labels, but the music itself seems to fit here.
If you look up Vaporwave, or more specifically Simpsonwave 1995 by FrankJavCee (which is a remix of Resonance Home) that video has a similar almost glitch nostalgic sound to it, albeit less...

It feels like everyone on Tildes, including me, is reading House of Leaves right now. Lol

Alder and Elius

Funkstörung
Pan American

Dominik Eulberg
Mogwai

Funki Porcini
/edit:
almost forgot Mouse on Mars. Honestly, they are amazing.
Artists like Autechre, Aphex Twin, Andreas Tiliander come to mind as well, albeit they are -while fitting- can be fairly different again.
...also that track gives me that warm fuzzy feeling I always get when hearing some old Kompakt records.
....as for the track you've linked, you might want to check if maybe the Drone genre is something you are looking for, like e.g. Trio for Strings.
