It's me, back with another Sir Curse release! Hitchhiker Disco is one of my favourite tunes that we've written, and it absolutely goes off when we play it live. The video was a ton of fun to do as well, I love working with our director as he has such creative ideas. It's the first one where I've been a protagonist, which I had a great time doing. This also features a cameo or two by my lovely daughter, which she was rather excited about (to put it mildly). To be candid, I think this one is more "us" than the previous single, and I prefer it to the first.
Writing Hitchhiker was a great experience as well, most of the tune came together really easily, except for the chorus. Our bass player came up with it while he was really high, and it was initially a lot more complex than the current iteration (which is still quite complicated). There were phrases of 2 bars, 3 bars, 4 bars, 6 bars, and 12 bars all playing at the same time in 4/4, and it got utterly ridiculous to try and keep track of. Fortunately we worked on the arrangement to make something a lot more accessible, while still keeping some of that whacky phrasing. If you ever get to see us live, you have to promise to join in when I start doing the Macarena during the middle section!
We're trying something different with the release this time, partly due to time limitations relating to Spotify uploads, but this isn't going on streaming sites until November, as we would like to try and encourage purchases via Bandcamp. It's Bandcamp Friday today (a deliberate choice) and so we get a larger cut of any sales that we make. It will eventually make its way to Spotify etc with the rest of our music, so fear not!
Press releasey bits
Hitchhiker Disco is possibly Sir Curse's grooviest tune to date. Like all of the band's tunes it was a true collaborative effort, and they are very proud of the end result. Says trumpeter Joe Martin "The intro actually came from a fairly angry place, with the trumpet and guitar playing the main riff together. I remember Billie came up with the verse almost immediately, and before I knew it Lyndsay was writing about Hitchhikers killing people!"

Awesome. The song feels like gothic ska, and I love it! Bought a copy on Bandcamp and threw in a little extra since you all deserve it. :) TBH, watching the video was a bit difficult for me...

TBH, watching the video was a bit difficult for me though, since the shaky cam was too much for me to handle, especially in the 4:3 aspect ratio. But I liked the concept of it!
Thank you, that's so kind! Sorry about the video though, we didn't consider that as a potential problem in truth. I'll definitely feed it back to our director though 😊

And as for the video, that's definitely a me problem, so don't worry about it too much. I think I would have been okay watching it if I wasn't monstrously hung over. But being hungover (so dizzy and pretty nauseated to begin with) + the shaky cam + the puking scene kinda set me on edge, so I unfortunately had to look away a bunch while watching it. But I'll try watching it again tomorrow when my brain and body hopefully aren't so fried. :P
