What have you been listening to this week?
What have you been listening to this week? You don't need to do a 6000 word review if you don't want to, but please write something! If you've just picked up some music, please update on that as well, we'd love to see your hauls :)
Feel free to give recs or discuss anything about each others' listening habits.

Sum 41's latest album dropped and it's a wonderful callback to their early days with that punk rock style. Coupled with some more mature topics and it's a great album from them. Love it.
Man, one of my biggest regrets is going to be not being able to see them. I had a chance at going to their concert in Porto in July but it didn't work out for me :(
Glad the last album is a banger though, I'll miss 'em
I've been listening to Daft Punk's Random Access Memories (Drumless Edition). It's a beautiful album; Beyond is particularly beautiful drumless, but something about Motherboard feels especially poignant.
I do wish they'd left the 'click' in Giorgio by Moroder, however, since it just doesn't sound right without it, and considering the album is meant to be "drumless" and Giorgio himself is talking about a synthesizer click as it appears in the original track, it doesn't make sense to me that it was removed.
I love the radio playlist that spotify generates from the song Barbara Streisand by Duck Sauce. It's a perfect party playlist for driving my wife to a date. Press the three dots on the song and then press "Go to song radio"
So iv just started listening to death cab for cutie. I'd heard their big hits before but never actually listened to them. It's so damn good. I'm a fan and will go through all their stuff over the next couple days.
Also been listening to the new coffins and dodsrit albums.
I adore Death Cab! I love all their studio albums, but by far my favorite performance of theirs is when they did Tiny Desk. The stripped down nature of Tiny Desk suited them perfectly, and really showcased how amazing Ben Gibbard's voice is.
Oooo I will have to check that out. I really like the tiny desk series so I dunno why ibsidnt think of this.
Ben Gibbard has also performed solo on Tiny Desk, and several times on KEXP as well, which are also worth checking out, IMO:
2011 - Ben Gibbard: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
2018 - Ben Gibbard - Full Performance (Live on KEXP)
2022 - Ben Gibbard - Full Performance (Live on KEXP)
Noice! Looks like I gotta bit of viewing in my future.
Kind of a fun coincidence, but Ben Gibbard actually did a Criterion Collection Closet Picks video today which I thought you might find amusing. It's movie related, not music, but still interesting:

Cheers will check it out
Milky Chance, Living in a Haze. Love the latin beats incorporated into alternative styling. Good workout album.
I've been listening to my usual mix of kpop and hip hop, though with some new albums and songs. This past week has been dominated by IVE and King Geedorah.
Highlights include songs like:
An odd highlight would probably be Kung Fu by King Joe. It's a Korean song from 2003 with lyrics from the hit song Rapper's Delight. The song is pretty catchy in my opinion and it's cool seeing what rap culture in South Korea was like 20 years ago
I've been stuck on an endless loop of The Smiths and a sprinkle of The Strokes, so, yeah, that's cool.
The 1980s.
No "New Music Fridays" post last week it seems, so I'll post the stuff I've been checking out that released last week here instead.
Non-metal
kelly moran - Moves in the Field
Solo piano. Lush, warm, atmospheric. Some classical touches, some modern feel. Just beautiful piano work in general. It's complex but minimal at the same time. Very measured in its writing. Love this.
Metal (primarily clean-ish / non-scream vocals or instrumental)
None this time.
Metal (primarily harsh vocals)
Coffins - Sinister Oath
A long-standing Japanese death/doom band doing it as well as they ever have. Riffs that just make you constantly headbang and stankface.
Endless Loss - Traversing the Mephitic Artery
Australian black/death. Reminds me of war metal. Very bludgeoning, somewhat muddy but it contributes to the brutal atmosphere.
Givre - Le Cloitre
Quebecois black metal (and seems relatively safe from the nationalist/fascist tendencies of that scene). Historical religious themes and imagery, which can be offputting for some (including myself) on occasion but the band insists it's not in a "devotional or preachy way"- and they've spread awareness of forced evangelization's legacy of suffering / oppression of the indigenous, so I believe them.
Hate Force - Systems of Terror
Chicago war/death metal. Absolute hurricane of guitars coming at you at all times and deep death growls.
Frail Body - Artificial Bouquet
Skramz/screamo from Illinois that sounds like it could have come out two decades ago. Because the sound really reflects the time of the style it's taken me a bit longer to get into this one- as it's just not a genre/era I really gel with these days- but this does it so well, I've come around to it.
