Mink Car was my first TMBG album, and I think this song might be my favorite deep cut of theirs (which is saying something given just how many deep cuts they have).
The song does such a good job of pairing absurdity with genuine resonance. The floating hat is a comical setup, but the second verse (about the passage of time) is legitimately poetic. The choruses, with their messages of affirmation, are earnest and meaningful.
It strikes a tone that’s hard to pull off, and it does so exceedingly well. The song is like a funny, warm hug.
