I read in some gaming magazines about the work Blizzard was doing for War2 and got really excited when the release was announced. Unfortunately it came out on the day my family took me on a week long trip to visit relatives and all I could think about was what I was missing. At least it was a great game when I finally got to play it.
More recently the only game I've instantly bought on release day (besides Silksong) was Factorio: Space Age and it more than lived up to all expectations.

Nemoder Strange, I've only seen "not for nothing" used to imply the effort put into a task wasn't entirely wasted even if the results weren't optimal. I grew up around commercial orchards and my favorite apple is actually still the Golden Delicious, however I can fully understand why so many people despise it after buying one in a supermarket. Night and day difference between that and fresh off the tree.

Nemoder I don't like that mentality either, I try to frame it like getting a new bicycle. Do you want one that's ready to ride now or do you want to build it from a kit? It doesn't matter if the fix is a bunch of clicks or commands in a terminal, they aren't interested. To claim that one is harder than the other is a moot point for them.

Nemoder I'm surprised it only briefly mentioned the Cosmic Crisp which has had a big marketing push to try and de-throne Honey Crisp. There's a ton of factors here beyond just fruit hardiness though:...I'm surprised it only briefly mentioned the Cosmic Crisp which has had a big marketing push to try and de-throne Honey Crisp. There's a ton of factors here beyond just fruit hardiness though: changing weather patterns, patent wars, trade wars, massive orchards that began replacing their varieties several years ago. Remember it takes at least 5 years to get a new variety into production, and can take longer to scale it up for the bigger farms depending on availability from tree nurseries.

Some of those novice users I switched to Linux and they also frequently needed help. As expected, nothing changed.
I suppose there is an argument for power users who think they know more than they do and want to fix their own problems without learning new things but that is not the majority of users.

but as you say that kicks the can down the road if you are installing a lot of packages. My system with years of cruft is up to about 40gb in root. Resizing the partition is one option, though if you are dualbooting with windows a new 2nd hard drive is probably the best option. -

The launch was fumbled a bit so it didn't get the best reviews out of the gate for who the publisher was trying to pitch it to but it is a pretty good turn based game with no random factors or meta gaming, just challenging missions. It has a lot of dialog and cutscenes but most of it is skipable and isn't that important for the mission objectives which are generally just stay alive and kill the baddies.
Since you mentioned Midnight Suns and Xcom you might like it. CristopherOdd also did a pretty good letsplay series for it.

But this time I had a friend who knew the game show me the basics and it made such a huge difference that we were able to last well past the first major event.
I really like the level of detail and object interactions. I was surprised that the game feels a lot more like a sandbox than survival once through the basics though. We did end up installing a ton of mods which probably made some of it a little easier.

This reminds me of that Stargate SG1 episode "The Gamekeeper" where they get trapped in a virtual world reliving their worst memories. Even the bad memories are exciting for the inhabitants because they have been trapped for thousands of years with only the same re-hashed content.
