I was not the biggest fan of Short N Sweet nor did I care much for Manchild. But I liked this song quite a bit and actually enjoy Man’s Best Friend as an album more than I did SnS.

Sadly, this album doesn't do it for me. It just doesn't feel as clever, catchy, novel. On the other hand I couldn't get enough of Short n' Sweet, whose singles were super high bar. I'll go back to...

I think the main issue I had with Short N Sweet was how… country a lot of it felt. I only really cared for Espresso and Bed Chem from the OG album and Busy Woman from the deluxe (I don’t know why that wasn’t in the OG). This has more of a pop feel to it throughout, and even the ones that have more of that country twang (like Go Go Juice) sit better with me than stuff like Taste did on the previous album. I think what disappointed me with Short N Sweet is that I was expecting it to be more of an Espresso album rather than that being the exception. For what it’s worth I don’t think anything in MBF is as good as Espresso.

I came to Short n' Sweet after the release of Please, Please, Please so I had no expectations other than "wow this single is really good I should pay more attention ". Taste has a Betty Davis Eyes 80s-vibe, so I instantly loved it.

Playing them both through just now and I'd say only 4 (maybe 5) of 12 tracks are Country-ish. On both albums, which is surely no coincidence.

With MBF I was excited about Manchild with its half Country/80s thing. But a listen to the new album again just now and I am warming to it. I don't hate it, I just think it's inferior to SnS. Country-ish tracks I would say peaks far higher on We Almost Broke Up Again Last Night and Go Go Juice than anything on SnS.

I disagree in the sense that I think only three songs from SnS are pop-based (Espresso, Bed Chem, and Don’t Smile). Whereas Manchild, Tears, Never Getting Laid, Nobody’s Son, When Did You Get Hot,...

Whereas Manchild, Tears, Never Getting Laid, Nobody’s Son, When Did You Get Hot, and House Tour lean pop. And I think what I like about Go Go Juice compared to a lot of SnS is that’s it’s more of a dance song so I don’t feel the country-adjacent sound as much.
