Obligatory comment about how disappointing it is to watch Martin flounder in his pit of Elon-worship and productivity buzzwords as he repeatedly builds, destroys, and resets his work on the touring version of the marble machine.
I watched quite a few of his Marble Machine X videos (after discovering Wintergaten and listening to quite a few of their tracks as study music in college), but haven’t in at least 5ish years?...

The initial videos were cool, but I think he’s too busy chasing perfection. But some of those early/testing videos from when the X had enough progress to make music, even if not good enough for his standards, were really interesting.
The whole thing is quite an interesting design challenge.

essentially he abandoned MMX since there were some bad decisions early on that was just causing issues down the line. Since then, he has been working on the MM3, but is constantly in a loop of "function only -> that looks ugly, need to redesign something that looks better -> that is too complex, need to build something focused on function only." On top of that loop, he also gets dragged into different design philosophies, and then starts over.

Enjoy this song, and go no further. Beyond this song is nothing but endless cycles of hope and despair.
Interestingly, he seems to have realised the Sysiphean nature of his project in 2024: https://youtu.be/BpJYqC4PWEw?t=575 I have no idea if he meaningfully changed as a result. I haven't checked up...

Luckily, he does seem to have gotten out of the more toxic design communities in recent years, but yeah there were a few rough years

I have no idea if he meaningfully changed as a result. I haven't checked up on his progress in several years.
