It sounds better than their other stuff from recent years but damn I just wish they would go back to their roots more. They were one of my favourites growing up, had all their albums and went to every concert I could. But they have been lackluster for so long, I haven't listened to most of their releases since 10+ years more than a handful of times whereas they used to be on repeat (and their older stuff still regularly is).

I'm with you, 'Golden Hall' and 'With Oden' still get the most regular spins for me, with a smattering of those in-between and 'Twilight', but nothing released after has stuck. I like the melodicism of this new one but miss the deeper melancholy that suffuses the early stuff.

Meanwhile they seem more popular than ever. So the new stuff has a broader appeal I guess, but I really don't get it - maybe it's how polished and clean it sounds? Oden was a major change in sound...

Meanwhile they seem more popular than ever. So the new stuff has a broader appeal I guess, but I really don't get it - maybe it's how polished and clean it sounds? Oden was a major change in sound and it worked for that and Twilight, but afterwards not so much. I can name practically every song from those first 5-6 albums but ask me about the next 5 and I have nearly zero clue.

Can always hope that they'll do some sort of anniversary tour with the older stuff, but won't hold my breath.
