In this episode I dig up some cool versions of jazz standards - the tunes that have launched a thousand jam sessions. These are not necessarily the most famous standards, nor are they the definitive canonical versions. But they do hint at the versatility of the old songs that form the core of the jazz songbook.

I just quickly scanned this podcast to see if it would interest me... It does, so I will be listening to it later tonight when I start sending out invites again. But in the mean-time I just wanted to pop in and say you have an amazing radio voice. I'm looking forward to listening to the whole thing! ;)

Thanks very much! It's been a few years since I did any voiceover work and I quit smoking since then, so I have been feeling like I lost a little depth in my voice. Good to hear I've still got it....

You definitely project (not sure if that's the right word?) much better than I do -- I feel like I could sit in the back of a lecture hall and listen to you talk about jazz for days, haha....

Meanwhile, I often sound like I'm mumbling to myself (admittedly, early mornings and I don't particularly agree)

Nah, you sound great. Your voice is in a higher register than mine (I guess you would be a tenor instead of a baritone) but you enunciate clearly and you obviously know what you're talking about....

And keep in mind that you do your show live, mostly speaking off the cuff, whereas my breaks are partially scripted, and always re-tracked and edited until I'm happy with them. It's an entirely different approach, and tbh I'm still getting comfortable with it.
