I'm seeing this as a smart business move by Soundcloud in promoting their subscription services (for which Pro or better is required to take advantage of these new distribution services), as the platform has had numerous troubles financing itself in the past. This seems like a solid incentive with a very low overhead.

    That said...

Musicians are very likely to receive more for their money if all they are after is distribution on the major streaming and digital storefront services by way of Amuse, DistroKid, or any number of established digital distribution aggregates. If they aren't utilizing the other features in their paid plans, then I can't see why Soundcloud Premier would be worthwhile.

Spotify has recently allowed free submissions through an artist management portal, with Apple Music and other services following soon. There's just no reason to pay more than $20 USD a year for what is being offered here unless the other pro features are being taken advantage of. This is just a bonus perk. A cherry on top.

A lot of prominent musicians already do take advantage of those features on Soundcloud, so this makes a lot of sense as a one stop way to distribute your music. If you're an already Soundcloud-based artist (which a lot are, of course, their problem isn't getting people to the site in the first place), greatly expanding the features you have access to on that front as well as having an avenue to wider release seems like a no-brainer.

To me, this looks like a fantastic move.
