I have been really slow to get on the Vulfpeck train, but I'm finally getting on board. When I would check out their stuff in years past I was always kind of underwhelmed, thinking it was just some college music student wanna-be funk. But I'm REALLY digging the newest album. The video with Michael Bland on drums was the one that started to turn me around. Now this is the first time I'm hearing this particular track and yeah, it's great too. I also really dig the tunes with James Gadson on drums. It's probably almost time for me to dig into their back catalog and figure out if my initial reaction was actually because of the music, or just because I react badly to overhyped bands.
I went through a similar process with Snarky Puppy, incidentally. Outright rejection after all the hype in /r/jazz, followed by eventual respect and fandom after hearing them on my own terms.
I saw Vulfpeck live once and was supremely unimpressed, would you expect their studio stuff to be a better look into their work? Incidentally, I too was ambivalent about Snarky Puppy until I saw...

Incidentally, I too was ambivalent about Snarky Puppy until I saw them live, the percussion section was unreal. I still wouldn't say I pay much attention to their new releases, but if I get a chance to catch them live, I will
edit: Ok, so the linked track wasn't really my speed, but YT auto-played this one immediately following, I can get down with some Wurlitzer funk

My friend just sent me a Vulfpeck song last night and I woke up to this, so I listened to both really quickly and this is really neat. I dunno why but I never took Vulfpeck for a funk band/artist...
