The song is just something light and fun I've had in rotation lately. I used to be a vinyl DJ way back when, for the last ten years I've run Future Funk Airlines on Reddit.

(I actually like the dub version a little better but if I posted that you wouldnt get to see them pretending the calculator watches they're wearing are mini radio transmitters or something. And since I've got the page open, here's discogs.)

About the song, firstly, the top comment about wanting to imagine that the 80s looked like that is pretty funny. The song, video and album cover do tick all the stereotypes of the 80s in the US though.

Secondly, the song seems to be like 99 luftballons where you're basically putting some cheery music with lyrics about the apocalypse, where people are 'going' (fleeing) to the beach because nuclear weapons have destroyed their cities. Some people have speculated the song is loosely based on the post-apocalyptic novel on the beach because it shares the same context, but that's not confirmed. I personally find the contrast a bit strage, but if it's not badly done it sounds good so I don't find it something bad.

Wow I had no idea about the lyrics, thanks for the information. To be honest I have no problem with happy music mixed with dark lyrics though. I was going to say maybe London Calling is along the same lines but even the melody alone isn't nearly as cheerful as 99 Luftballons or Vamos a la Playa.

Are you a fan of disco/italo in general?

No, I just stumbled upon that in the comments and looked it up by finding a translation, which says so.

Heh. Which of these statements is more accurate regarding your feelings about disco and italo disco? "I hate disco!" "I LOATHE italo disco!" I'm kidding of course! i know it's not for everyone.
